Samsung to Spend US$100mln Building Second India Plant

Samsung has signed a memorandum of understanding with the government of Tamil Nadu to invest US$100 million building an 80-acre consumer electronics facility in Sriperumbudur, near Chennai. Construction on the facility is expected to commence in January 2007, and operations are slated for August of the same year. Initially the facility will be used for the production of 1.5 million color televisions and one million PC monitors annually. Production of LCD televisions and monitors is planned for the second-phase capacity expansion. A staff of some 2,500 will be recruited for the new facility.
